Karma Geljen Sherpa
Karma is from Sibuje Village in the Eastern Everest Region of Nepal (Solukhumbu). At the age of 15 he took his first job as a porter on an expedition, and quickly worked his way up the ranks to cook, assistant guide, guide, and finally Sirdar (expedition leader). Karma has guided numerous high altitude treks, dozens of 6,000 meter peaks, and 8,000 meter peaks including Cho Oyu, Manaslu, Makalu, Dhauligiri, and Mt. Everest. Karma is the owner of Higher Path Treks and Expeditions- a guide owned and operated sustainable tourism company based in Nepal. Through his company, Karma employs local people for excellent wages and contributes to a project fund in Sibuje Village.
Glen Young
Glen Young has worked in outdoor and environmental education since 1996. He has led dozens of international programs, including work in Canada, Ecuador, Peru, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and Nepal. He has been an alpine guide in Alaska, New Zealand, Nepal, Canada, and the United States. He currently lives in Yosemite National Park where he works for the non-profit environmental education organization, NatureBridge.
